Suppressed Transmission

So Long, and Thanks for All the Mermaids

"No -- it is not enough. To be told so little -- to such an end -- and still, finally, to be denied an explanation --"
-- Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Act III

My column "Suppressed Transmission" has been part of Pyramid Online since the beginning. Ten (and a fraction) years, and 300 (and a fraction) columns later, I'm ending it, with mixed feelings and with Shakespeare. Why?

Well, Pyramid is changing, as I'm sure you've all just read, "into something rich and strange." I wish it all the best, and I'm certain as the day is long that with Steven Marsh at the helm, it will be a magnificent series of PDFs. But at the end of the day, I can't quite justify making a commitment to writing part of a magnificent series of PDFs when I could spend the time, the research, and all the other imponderables that go into "Suppressed Transmission" writing other things and trying for what magnificence I can muster on my own.

Will "Suppressed Transmission" return in some form, at some other location perhaps, or under another name? Will I write other, perhaps more self-contained, stuff for Pyramid? Who knows? Right now, I've got two other ongoing columns to write as it is, "Lost in Lovecraft" for Weird Tales and "Out of the Box" for IPR, plus more Trail of Cthulhu work and a few other irons in the fire (including a few GURPS things I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to talk about yet), so I'm not sure when I'll be able to take a breath and . . .
