Fantasy:

A healing mage who broke the rules, and got kicked out.

Modern and Near Future:

Assuming Psi is unknown, figure that she got addicted to something illegal, and was kicked out. She's been improving her psi skills on her own.

Never did give her a name, though I thought she was a pretty interesting character. She got addicted to IQ-Adders while in med school. Assuming that TL11 universities are as sticky about that as TL7 ones would be, she got kicked out (possibly with a "And Stay Out!"). Since then, she's hired onto small fringe-going ships as an unlicensed medic - there's a lot of ships out there that rely on micromeds/autodocs, because one doesn't have to pay those. Her Planetology, Engineering (Life Support), and Accounting skills were all picked up on ships, for being useful besides as a doctor. She doesn't advertise her psionic power - possibly because she doesn't know how impressive it really is! Don't all psi healers do this? And they're probably better at it, too.

All her medical skills are specialized in mammalian life forms (unless you're going to change her species from mammalian (human) to something else, of course).

Typical Quotes:

"No, I'm not licensed. But I'm good, really!"

"Just don't get dead. It's really hard to cure dead."

"Well, could you use a spare mechanic?"

"Yes, you were shot by a blaster. Yes, it clipped the spinal cord. Yes, you nearly died. I got to you in time. Be good, and you'll walk again, too."
